I find it funny that people sometimes use the keyphrase ‘caramel toffee’ or just ‘caramel’ and ‘toffee’ to reach my blog. I bet they’re disappointed when they the blog has nothing to do with caramel toffee. Lol, so here’s to future random people who stumbled into my blog for the sake of caramel toffee.
Hey, I wouldn’t have chosen this domain name if I didn’t know how to make some! You can try making your own caramel toffee if you’re bored enough and have the following ingredients:
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
100 grams butter (salted, unsalted, I don’t care)
1 cup sugar
2 cups of honey (or corn syrup)**If you don’t have corn syrup or honey, here’s what you can do:
boil 2 cups sugar with 1/2 cup of water until the mixture looks all gooey =D
First, boil the unopened condensed milk in a bath. Don’t open it. Just pour water into some kind of bowl or something and put the can of milk in. Boil for 1 1/2 or up to 2 hours. Make sure the can is always covered by water (so that it boils properly)
Open the can after letting it boil. Don’t burn your hand! I bet you know what to use to touch the can ^^ Beat the milk with butter, sugar and honey. Stir until the mixture looks smooth.
Boil again. No, not in a bath. Just boil the mixture. Don’t burn it! Boil for around 20 to 40 minutes.
Pour the mixture into some shallow tupperware or something to let cool. I suggest a shallow one so that it’s easier for you to flip the container over and get the hardened mixture out.
After it’s completely hardened, flip the container and cut into pieces. There’s your caramel toffee.
p.s/ Ok, no complaining about my method of giving instruction. I’m trying to be as laidback as possible. I just don’t want to be like a robot, giving instructions like ‘first, this…’, ‘second, this’ and so on. Just ask if you have questions.

Careful with a hot bath, because it tends to burst when you open it, causing 2nd degree burns…
I know cuz I handle hand made chocolates….

Yes, very true~ Especially to people who never cooked before. Melting chocolate in a bath is pretty cool, though. I have an unhealthy obsession of seeing melting cooking chocolate in a clear bath. Mixing melted chocolate with butter and whatnot afterwards is cool too, or maybe I’m just crazy.
Now you just make me feel like making some handmade chocolates with some cat/rabbit molds.
@Adlina, Using double bath for chocs is a No-No as chocolate is OIL BASED, and will screw the whole thing…. Just one drop of water or steam will spoil the whole tank!
Low heat (light bulb 300W) will do the trick better…
best wishes
Where do I get 300W lightbulb? Sounds cool, but my Mom probably won’t allow it because she’d argue ‘hah, letrik lagi? cek ni memang…’. ^^
